ABOUT ME

From nearly dropping out of university, to a diagnosis of depression, not being able to decide what to do with my life, it all makes so much sense now.

So what led me to become a naturopath, passionate about helping people find the answers, being their most supportive cheerleader along the way?

So much of my 20s was spent sleeping. I was told I was lazy, if I just tried harder…but I was trying harder. Daily migraines, chronic pain, doctors told me it was all in my head. I actually started to believe them. So maybe if something in my head was broken, I needed to fix that. My search for answers began. I went back to university and studied psychology – it seemed like a good idea at the time. But it didn’t fix me.

Things got worse. Was it the pressure of writing a thesis, the death of my father? Who knows, but my nervous system was a mess. I could barely get out of bed most days, and my symptoms were getting worse. I was told this was my life now, to get used to it, and not expect anything better. I was put on medications with side effects that made my illness look like the lesser of two evils. One doctor told me he didn’t know what to do with me and that I should go and see someone else. So I did.

She actually listened. And that was enough. Just to be heard. I remember how horrified she was when I explained I was having migraines every day. That was the first thing we addressed. Then life got a little better. Day by day my symptoms lessened, and I was able to move a little more, live a freer and dream a little bigger. She suspected fibromyalgia, and it was confirmed by a rheumatologist along with CFS/ME. The rheumatologist was so impressed with how I was managing my illness with diet and lifestyle she suggested I stay off medications, so I did. Since then I’ve also been diagnosed with coeliac disease.

From those lived experiences I’ve made it my mission to make sure no one is overlooked. No one should be dismissed, told they’re too hard or it’s all in their head. I’ve been on the receiving end of that, and I know how soul destroying it is to believe that this is the best it’s going to get, to believe that your body has betrayed you. There’s always a reason, you just need to know where to look.

My experiences have led me to become a deeply empathetic practitioner, who’ll hold the space you need and hear your story. I come to my work with an inclusive, neuroaffirming and trauma-informed approach, where your care is the only priority. No dismissal, only answers.
